Another One Bites The Dust
My world continues to shrink
So, it’s been about a month since my last post. I continue to watch with sadness the situation in Israel and Gaza, and as was as predictable as the next morning’s sunrise, I have watched as the support for Israel has evaporated around the world (to the extent that it ever existed). My late parents often said that “Israel is the Jew among nations”, but while I understood their point, I never realized until October 7th how true that was.
So, why has “another one bitten the dust”? Easy—yet another Substack that I followed, one to which I have subscribed for at least a couple of years (and no, I’m not going to name it; I don’t believe in shaming or flame wars. I just quietly “take my ball and go home.” They can continue to publish without my financial support.) waded today into the Israel-Palestine conflict by posting a bunch of links to support Gaza and by extension, Hamas. In concept, supporting Gaza would be fine, if the aid really did reach ordinary Gazans, but it seems pretty obvious to all but the most blindly naive (or the fervent Israel-hater) that Hamas is intercepting pretty much all aid and using it for its own purposes. I mean, isn’t it weird how there is supposedly no fuel in Gaza, yet Hamas seems to have no issue firing off its rockets? There are no construction supplies, yet Hamas built a veritable city of tunnels. Etc., etc.
Anyway, the thing is, this Substack has absolutely nothing to do with foreign affairs whatsoever. It has never, to the best of my recollection, weighed in on any foreign conflict……………………..until today. Whenever Israel responds to Hamas attacks, everyone seems to become an expert on the history of the region. I won’t even discuss how the TikTok generation has bought the Palestinian narrative 100%. In any event, I have walked away from another Substack, and I doubt that this will be the last time, sadly enough. I say “sadly enough” because I believe that great writing and worthwhile causes should be supported financially to the extent that I can. However, as the past 75 days have proven time and again, that support is rarely reciprocated.
So, apart from Israel and my ongoing angst over what is happening there, what else can I discuss? My Montreal Canadiens. They tread water. Constantly. That’s pretty much all they have done for the last 30 years. I got to see them win a bunch of Stanley Cups when I was younger. I doubt that my kids will see them win even one.

Same thing happened to me with someone I know yesterday. No longer wants to work with me because of my stand on Israel. Okay. For every friend who distances themselves from me, I've gained ten more from the worldwide Jewish community!
Agree 100%, great piece.
